Trying Biolent Flex as a replacement for Soylent. Satisfied with shipping and price, texture is not bad, and it's effective as a meal replacement in that I don't feel hungry. However, I find the artificial sweetener taste far too strong and too sweet, so much so that hesitate to order it again.
I find the drink quite sweet, can you tell me why they put artificial sweeteners in and are the ingredients organic?
I'm a past Soylent user and now a happy Biolent Flex user. It was great to find a product similar to the one I was already consuming that ships for free within Canada! The product itself is filling, quick, easy to mix, and the price is right for me to go mostly solid food free as my diet of choice. Adding in a couple things like some vegan hot chocolate powder and a bit of PB2 for taste allows me to vary the flavour while maintaining a solid vegan diet, which is no easy task to accomplish for ~$400 a month.
A perfect example of the excellent level of customer service would be from my last shipment. I had a package that was damaged in shipping, one of the bags was perforated. Upon contacting the company I was immediately reimbursed for the cost of a single bag without needing to jump through multiple hoops. Fantastic way to show your customer base you respect and trust them.
I've recently dropped my subscription to a smaller amount, but only because I haven't had the chance to work my way through a surplus I've been building up due to not consuming only Biolent for every meal as I originally intended to. Fortunately with the 1 year expiration date I can happily sit on those bags until they're consumed while the smaller order continues to ship out to me.
My only hope is that they continue offering the powdered version of Biolent going forward, I heard rumblings of a possible end to the run but that was months back and seems to be incorrect at this point. I'd also like to see the introduction of a cost effective bracket between 28 meals and 112 meals as I feel like there should be a small amount of savings if you're looking to order 56 meals a month rather than just doubling up the order of 28 meals.
I’m drinking Biolent for two of my daily meals and I always feel full but not heavy or bloated. Way better than some of the other powders I’ve tried.
Tip: I prefer it in a blender bottle. That way you can give it a little swirl between sips to keep the bigger particles suspended in the water.
Nice flavour, I actually prefer it to soylent. A bit sweet, however. I could do with less of the artificial sweetener.
Neutral tasting product.
Texture quality is poor.
It is highly recommended you let it chill in the fridge overnight to make it more palatable.
I use it as breakfast every morning.
It may taste like matcha tea and wood pulp, but if you put in a bottle of chocolate premier protein you're not only getting double your protein but also masking the taste. It tastes fine by itself if you use water, but who doesn't like chocolate! I've already stopped gaining weight with the medication I'm on and I'm hoping to lose 60 pounds. My only question is whether or not it's part of a ketogenic diet like biolent keto
This website says there is 40 grams of protein in the Biolent Flex product. But the documentation that comes with Biolent Flex says that the Serving Size is 2 scoops and the Nutritional Facts says 20g. I would think the Nutritional Facts would be per serving size, which is standard for all product labeling and not per scoop (given that 2 scoops is one serving). So I am having 2 scoops and I really don't know if I am getting 250 calories and 20 grams of protein or if I am getting 500 calories and 40 grams of protein. This is very confusing.
As it has been seemingly quite common, I too transitioned to this website after the inability to purchase Soylent. A blessing in disguise for this company.
Anywho, I find the products here (both keto and flex) to be way more delicious than Soylent. I personally enjoy mine by using almond beverage and blending it in my magic bullet. I find that the almond beverage has the right viscosity to maintain an even distribution of the powder as opposed to using water and having the heavy particles drop to the bottom of the cup.
Thus, I've been enjoying these products thoroughly.
However! I have been using these powdered meals for a month or so. Not every meal. Just 1-2 a day, 4-6 days a week.
And today, as I write this, I noticed my hair being drastically different. That is, I'm losing hair. I'm seeing my scalp and receding hair as I look in the mirror. Never noticed this before. I'm a 27 year old male.
I briefly noticed some posts from people who consumed Soylent. But I never experienced this myself, although I consumed Soylent for less than a month in the past.
Now.. although this may be correlation and not causation, I have decided to stop consuming this product as of today to see what happens with my hair... Very surprised and worried.
We'll see what happens next..
I bought BIolent when Soylent stopped selling in Canada. I don't think I could go back to Soylent now. Biolent tastes way better, I look forward to drinking it. The extra protein makes it filling, 3 scoops keeps me sated for most of the work day. No digestive issues and better ingredients. I prefer Flex over Keto, smoother and less nutty. If you need a convenient and nutritious meal for work or workouts then Biolent is perfect.
Tasty, filling, and soy and dairy free. All the things I need to be healthy
It really fills you up. Tasty as heck.
Love this product. Smoother, less sweet and way better on my stomach than the Keto version. I also get way less hungry. Unless you are really into teh Keto diet, get Flex instead!
I came from Soylent as they're no longer allowed to sell in Canada. I bought Biolent Flex due to its protein to carb ratio is higher than the other options I've found.
I ordered two bags of Flex to take advantage of the free shipping. The packaging is good but it'd be nicer if it comes in a hard shell plastic box like Holfood or many protein powder.
I mix 4 scoops of Flex with 500 ml water. The taste reminds me of the powdered soy milk I've had in China and I really like it. The texture is slightly thicker than Soylent.
I am enjoying the Flex and will definitely buy again.
Better than Soylent. No stomach or bowel issues with this product. Makes my life easier. I eat 1 serving per day for lunch and skip breakfast. So I only have to prepare one solid food meal per day. I love the flex version since I lift weights and need the protein. Tastes good to me. I feel like this is a nutritious and healthy product. Lots of fiber, good quality natural foods. No gmo. 100% vegan. Awesome!!!Thank you so much to Biolent for making a quality product! Only problem is when I tell people the name “Biolent” they think I’m saying “violent”.
Much better than it's competitors. 100% vegan and easy on my stomach. It also tastes great. This stuff is perfect for when you don't have time to eat or as a substitute for a snack. It keeps you full without feeling bloated. Would 100% recommend to all my friends and family.
After you've had a few shakes, you'll love the taste! Just takes a bit of getting used to.
Good product for sure. It beats Soylent by taste and ingredients. It is 1000% better than HolFood (do people read labels when comparing the two?!) After trying a few brands and researching, Biolent is determined as my go to product. Keep up to good work.
I tried Flex as a way of maintaining the convenience of Soylent while getting more protein. I was very impressed with the taste and how full it kept me compared to Soylent. The only things that I would say Soylent beats Biolent on is visual appeal, which is trivial, and cost, which is significant. I don't think I'll subscribe to Biolent, but I will be ordering it from time to time.
I tried Biolent a while ago and the taste and texture threw me off but they must have reformulated because the bags I got recently are great! The taste is pretty good and it's definitely smoother.
Tried biolent after switching from Soylent and Hol Food. I now bounce between Hol and Biolent. I like that it keeps me full, and the taste is way better than Soylent. I'm okay with it being pricier for the ingredients, but it is really sweet, and I have to break up two scoops into 500ml of water, and then repeat, in order to make it drinkable. If you're at all curious, its definitely worth the try.
The taste itself is pretty good. It is pretty sweet, but you get used to it.
The texture is pretty gritty, but it's ok. It feels a bit like oats.
After drinking it a week, I can say that I usually feel pretty full and stay full for a while.
It's a little hard to break up with a spoon, but I don't care. It tastes so good I just kinda chew through it. Definitely need to supplement some fruits and veggies so your poop doesn't get too solid. If you're going to be eating greasy burgers, eating a lot of this stuff makes your digestive system freak out a bit. But you want to make your digestive system freak out by bad unhealthy food.....which this is not
Great taste and I love that it's vegan, so I know I am doing something healthy for my body.
I'm not vegan nor vegetarian, but I dontry mostly to eat relatively well, so this product is a great addition to round out what I eat.
Not liking the new formula, loved the old one. It has a strange taste to it now.
The price and service are good compared to others, especially for Canadians. The recipe I thought was better before, when it had whey (I'm pretty certain). Now it seems to have gone vegan and has sucralose added, and some questionable saturated fat levels. The taste is ok, especially if you like coconut and sucralose I guess, but was better before in my opinion.
In general I think they are still tweaking the recipe so don't expect consistency.
And I keep getting emailed to leave a review. Then I get a bunch of popups. Why.
Anyways. I guess I really like this stuff. 200 or so meals in now. Tastes great. Macros are great. Price is competitive. Delivery is speedy.
Also why do some of these reviews look faked? I've seen the same comment repeated at least three times now. Or is it that the relative time isn't right..?
Tastes decent, fairly filling! A little gritty but less so that other meal replacement powders I've tried. It's not as homogeneous as soylent, but I think I don't mind that, its not like you have to chew it or anything. It's green which is kinda funny.
Did not come with a scoop which is unfortunate... had to manually figure out that a serving is 1/2 cup.
Good mix of macros, strange gritty texture. The taste is plain and slightly sweet (I ended up mixing some chocolate protein powder in to balance it). For the money I think I prefer the competition.
I was looking for a replacement to the 100% food I'd been using before they went nutty (as in odd, not the food) and found Biolent. It has less flavour but also way less sugar which is a plus so totally worth it. My first order was supposed to come with a measuring cup but didn't which could have been a pain if I didn't have my own scale.
I'm used to protein powder drinks so starting on Biolent was a bit different. There were some larger chunks of what I think are oats. I started blending it in the morning and leaving it in my fridge for a few hours then re-blending it and it is much better. There are still little pieces that you can clearly feel when swallowing it but I think that is unavoidable given the amount of fiber this contains. The taste is great, very mild and refreshing, best when chilled. The color is a pale green, sort of looks like a kale shake, not a gross color at all. I am lactose intolerant but have had no issues with this product. I'd recommend this and will likely be ordering again.
I recently switched to Biolent Flex and am loving the experience so far. Coming from Soylent, I find the taste and texture much better. Not everyone will have this opinion but I appreciate that I can actually recognise the some of the different elements while drinking the preparation. I also like the extra protein provided by this formula.
I do however find the price to be a bit steep, with taxes it costs close to 1.5 times as much per calorie than what I used to pay for Soylent (and that's with the rough exchange rates, without them it would be worse). Hopefully the price will come down once the company grows.
I drink one serving per day on average and expect to order more soon.
I can't describe the difference biolent has made for me. I have always felt hunger and anxiety and stress and i have suffered alcoholism to the point of health deterioration. I bought biolent because i was looking for the least expensive and most efficient way to stop eating bread and cheese and meat based foods.. I never expected that after a couple of weeks of eating 100% biolent i would feel like a fully functional human being. I have been suffering for 15 years, always feeling out of balance and following whatever my body craved.. For the first time ever, i'm ahead of what my body needs, and i literally don't have to think about food anymore. I always have one biolent meal ready in the fridge, and when i drink it, i make another to replace it. I'm doing about 1500cal/day and maybe twice a week i will treat myself to a very healthy and balanced normal meal for social events, but my fridge and cupboards are now empty of food other than the container in the fridge that holds the biolent mix, the shake i made for later, and the refill bags.
As someone who went through addiction, this is probably the most vital tool i've had at my disposal, because it helped my body balance itself to where i don't feel cravings that i don't understand and lost my sobriety over. I don't know what it does for someone in peak condition, but if it made a life-altering difference for me, i absolutely believe it will improve the life of pretty much everyone on earth regardless of where they are at. Please, unless you have allergies to an ingredient, give this a shot..
It changed my life in a few weeks and sorted my health right the #%^* out.
Biolent Flex is excellent for when I don't have the time to make a meal and don't want to eat out (which is usually unhealthier too). I prefer its texture after leaving it in the fridge overnight, but have had it right after making it too. It mixes easily enough when you shake it, but does tend to separate and will need a few shakes before you actually consume it.
Though it usually doesn't make me feel as full as eating real food might, its thick texture does satiate me enough to get rid of hunger for a while and I have used it several days in a row for lunch without hunger issues. I've tried 100% food (chocolate flavour) as well which I did NOT like in terms of texture or taste. Biolent Flex is slightly sweet; I think it did take me a few times to acquire the taste but now I look forward to consuming it, especially because I feel good health-wise after. Will order again, though I hope the price doesn't continue to go up.
The taste is a little earthy, kind of like not the best oatmeal. Pretty standard for this type of product. Mixes very easily with a small blender, which is much better than average for this type of product. Wish it had more VIt. D but otherwise happy! Already ordered another batch.
I want to like Biolent Flex more than I do. It tastes good and is easy to mix, but I have to chew it before I swallow. It's difficult for me to drink it straight when I can feel the chunks that haven't been completely ground up. The texture is terrible, and it takes away my enjoyment of the meal. Another inconvenience is that it's impossible to drink from anything other than a blender bottle. Much of the powder will settle to the bottom, so I have to re-shake it before every sip. If the powder were more homogeneous (or maybe thicker to mask the parts that haven't been ground all the way), I'd be significantly more satisfied with the product.
I like the idea of fewer carbs and more protein in this product. However as an athlete i know that having solely whey protein is not the best for recovery. I wish that the brown rice protein had not been taken out for this or the replaced it with a whey/casein blend. Also wish there was a measuring scoop in these bags or the option to receive one. All in all awesome product im gunna keep ordering the original and add my own protein.
The taste is fine, a bit chalky to my liking. After a few days of craving carbs, I now feel I can easily get through my day using this product for breakfast and lunch. I will be ordering a few more bags of biolent flex in the next few days. I wish they would include a measuring spoon rather than weighing out 116g which is a pain (the flaw with saying 1 cup is how easily this mix can pack down).
Taste is fairly mild so will be good for mixing and it was much easier to drink than I really expected, tastes a lot like mildly sweat oat meal.
I have tried the original Soylent and compared to that I much prefer Biolent flex. Better taste, consistency, and as a athlete I prefer the higher protein content.
I was a little hesitant about trying Biolent after reading some reviews that mentioned a cookies and cream taste and some consistency issues, but I decided I'd give it a go and see what happened.
I didn't experience either of those things.
What I received was a uniformly coloured, evenly ground substance with a taste similar to plain oatmeal. What more could you want from powdered food.
It tastes neutral, it mixes easily and cleans up simply from mixer bottles/blenders etc. I find it quite filling and I work out 5 times a week and maintain a reasonably active lifestyle. If you have the discipline to stick with powdered food, this stuff is great.
I'm still slowly working it into my routine, but I'm leaning towards Biolent as a replacement for most of my meals.
This is a good meal replacement, 90$ seems daunting at first but I've saved so much money since I'm not eating out every day at work for lunch.
Taste is good and it is quite filling. I drink a shake around noon and am full to around 3-4pm.
This is my second time ordering. I tried biolet for a whole week the last time and decided to go for the 112 meals pack.
Overall, of all the meal replacement I have tried (soylent 1.5/2.0, Vega,) Biolent is my favorite.
I would recommend biolent to anyone who would like to find a more convenient and comprehensive way to replace the non-social meals in their life.
It's great. Tastes way better than soylent. Overall, I love it.
I don't cook. I hate it. I hate grocery shopping. I hate recipe searching. I hate wondering when things spoil. I hate cleanup. I- well, you get the jist.
So I eat out, a lot. And it's terrible. No matter where you go places will cut corners on quality and nutrition to increase profit margins and keep prices manageable. And if you go to a place that truly has quality ingredients, the cost is absolutely absurd for the portion, especially considering I'm trying to take in over 3000 calories a day.
So Biolent is the perfect product for me. Note that I'm not saying it's a perfect product, but I disagree with some of the other reviewers for only giving it four stars. I give it five stars because, though I know it could be improved, it's the best product of its kind out there that you can buy today.
The taste is good. The texture is a bit offputting (but I'm not a fan of oatmeal). I don't at all get any of the aftertaste comments others have brought up. It straight up just tastes like oatmeal to me, with a bit of vanilla. Also I've never seen what it actually looks like mixed up because my shakers are black, but I don't understand why anyone would care anyway.
It's the ultimate practical meal. Quick to make, takes an eternity to spoil, and gives me a surprising amount of energy.
Where I think it could be improved:
- Seriously, that texture. I think it needs to be pulverised further to avoid the little goopy oat globs.
- I have a scoop that happens to work perfectly, but that's a stroke of luck, please include a shaker and scoop for first time orders like Soylent used to.
- A little more transparency would be nice. Lets see your factory and process. Lets hear a more concrete plan for this 25% going to charity.
All in all, very minor things. This is the product I've waited for for years.
I use Biolent for replacing meals that I eat on the run, what I call "utility eating". I have Biolent every meal for two days per week when I travel for work, and most days for lunch when I am at home. Having Biolent on my busy travel days saves time and money compared to eating out or packing a lunch. Powdered food travels well because it doesn't need refrigeration or a kitchen and clean up us easy. I tried another powdered food brand, but I prefer Biolent Flex because it makes me feel full longer. And Biolent's ingredients seem more wholesome. Why only 4 stars? Powdered food fills me physically, but not psychologically. Food is one of life's pleasures that I don't want to give up. For me, simplifying my diet for quick meals and spending more time on quality suppers when I am at home is a good balance - I don't waste time and money on my forgettable utility meals and I enjoy my cooked food more. Win-win.
- not soy based (avoids the issue of whether or not soy causes increased estrogen levels)
- The flavor starts off as sweet and vanilla/banana like.
- lumpiness in hurriedly mixed drinks was not as intolerable as with soylent. In fact, I almost prefer eating the powder over drinking it.
- seems to offer a pretty good list of vitamins
- Mixed drinks will settle and separate pretty quickly
- I'm not well versed in nutrition, but consuming 6 times the recommended dose of anything is probably not a good idea. Inefficient if nothing else.
- The aftertaste is strong and bitter, although tolerable
- The texture is sort of like drinking whole grain bread. I tried a spoonful without water and I think it might be a better fit as an ingredient in some sort of baked good. I don't have any guesses at what would go with this flavor though. Besides, I would cook actual meals if I was into baking.
- The packing. Its kind of scary when you receive a powdery mix like this - no idea what the bulk storage facility is like - and it comes packed in zip lock bags. I can appreciate opting to focus on the product verses flashy packaging. However, If the care of cleanliness and professionalism is not reflected in the packaging, then it might be reassuring to have sort of a virtual tour of the facilities.
I wouldn't want to live on the stuff, but it makes the groceries last longer and provides a convenient meal.
- quick delivery using Canada Post (not Purolator like a lot of other powdered-food companies used)
- great macro and micronutrient breakdown
- tastes great, and is better than most powdered food - faintly sweet (probably because of the almonds)
- texture and taste is the same regardless of preparation time - Soylent for example is pretty gross unless prepared 8+ hours ahead of time
- filling but not sickly filling - I don't feel hungry after a Biolent meal, but I don't feel like I just ate a brick
- mixes well - no problems with clumping at all
- texture is a bit off-putting
- the green, kinda partially-digested look reminds me of vomit
- plain bags are kinda cheap looking
- it's very easy to spill the powder everywhere because the bags don't stay up on their own
- no real indication of when the bags expire (unless I'm missing something)
- instructions are given in grams & oz for the powder but just oz for the water
- faint chemical or metallic aftertaste, maybe because of the iron
- neon--yellow urine, a sign that most of the vitamin content is not being absorbed
The pros definitely outweigh the cons, which are admittedly just minor gripes. After many problems with delivery and communication from some of Biolent's competitors, I'm glad that Biolent has everything in order, and am looking forward to ordering again!
I've been a regular of Biolent and other competitors for about one year now.. replacing 90% of my meals.
Used Biolent flex 1.1 before, and ordered a months worth of v1.2 to try out the new recipe. Keep in mind I am moderately active (Gym 5x a week), so generally require a few more calories and protein than your average amount.
*Removal of Maltodextrin, which whether or not the negatives are true (high GI load etc..), I'm still happy to see it go
*The Kale and Spirulina being added are a nice touch, especially since I can't taste either (and I really dislike Spirulina)
*Macro's are great, better than most. Glad to see lower carbs and higher protein than most of the competition (Fiber as well)
*Probiotics are a nice touch, only variation i've seen with it.
*I think the taste took a *slight* step back. Feint taste of artificial flavours, but it's not too bad by any stretch. Likely a result of removing MaltoDextrin
*While the taste is decent, it's very hard to alter. Might be easy to get tired of the taste
*Smoothness with the introduction of almonds is a step back. I've had a few almond pieces get stuck in my teeth
*Price - Went from $80/week (and no taxes) to $90/week + taxes. The slight discount for the month helps, but still costly.
Overall good product, and I'd still say it's a step in the right direction. I've delegated it to using 1-2 meals of this on workout days, but using other variants the rest of the time so that I don't tire of the taste, and to keep costs down.
Left a review below of my first shipment of Biolent Flex, which was version 1.1. I picked up the 112 meals order shortly afterwards after being thoroughly impressed with my week's supply of 1.1.
I received a large box with a more white-green powder than a chocolaty-brown powder and initially thought "oh man, did it all go bad on the way here?!" only to realize that it's actually Biolent Flex 1.2, the next iteration of the product. Nutrient-wise, it's about the same. The macro balance is ever so slightly better, but I have to say I'm not a huge fan of 1.2 on its own.
Flavor and taste-wise, 1.2 has replaced the chocolate/porridge flavor with a sweet cookies-and-cream flavor. When you add water, it becomes sort of algae-green and less appetizing. And, I've found that there's generally more particles and bits in 1.2 that really change the texture. These 3 things combined make it a lot less enjoyable than Biolent Flex 1.1, but it's particularly the cookies-and-cream flavor. It tastes very much like aspartame and crappy costco-bought whey protein powder.
I can live with the texture (and am going to have to after spending $330 CAD on it) but I'm definitely going to be blending it with berries, cocoa powder or something to improve the taste, which means it loses points in convenience and cost. Maybe I'm missing some of the other benefits of 1.2, but I definitely wish Biolent kept the flavor of 1.1 over the cookies-and-cream flavor in 1.2 - or at least advised me beforehand or given me the option to choose.
Like others, I came to Biolent after looking for a meal replacement solution with a bit more protein. I found myself mixing Soylent with my Syntha-6 protein shake frequently to meet my daily protein requirements as well as to help with the flavor.
Biolent Flex has neither of these problems. Not only does it taste great on its own (reminds me of porridge or Shreddies cereal, as opposed to raw pancake batter or uncooked pasta like with Soylent) and Biolent Flex has all the protein I need for my diet. It mixes well with other things too. Sometimes I'll blend it with a mix of frozen berries or some peanut butter when I want to squeeze in some extra calories. My friend has suggested I try it warm and use less water to make it even more like porridge, but I haven't tried that yet.
What's more is that it's (relatively) cheap. Soylent 2.0 is expensive, and even 1.5 was a bit more than Biolent Flex for me here in Canada thanks to our crappy exchange rate and the fact that I absolutely had to add something to Soylent to make the taste bearable.
See Biolent's status related to the other choices out there over at Blendrunner: http://www.blendrunner.com/?carbs-from=0&carbs-to=335&proteins-from=0&proteins-to=189&fats-from=0&fats-to=168&energy-from=0&energy-to=3000&fibre-from=0&fibre-to=57&shipping%5B0%5D=can¤cy=CAD
My main complaints with Biolent:
-The packaging isn't measured in any way visible to me (other than that there's "2000 calories per bag." I had to use a food scale to determine exactly how much I was using at a time in order to line up my macros. There's no scoop or anything like that included that has the portions already worked out for you.
-The bags humorously look like narcotics, which makes it look sketchy if you want to share a picture with your friends.
-And most importantly, the default (and only) shipping method is slower than a turtle in molasses. I'd be willing to throw in a few extra bucks if it meant my order showed up faster (hint hint)!
